Rudolf R. Schoon
(November 5, 1918 - March 31, 2013)

Rudolf Schoon was called to his eternal home on March 31, 2013, at Lake City, Iowa. Rudolf Raymond Schoon was born on November 5, 1918, near Pomeroy. He was the first born child of George and Anna (Essing) Schoon. Rudolf was educated in area rural schools. At the beginning of World War II, he enlisted in the US Army and served his basic training at Camp Rucker, AL. Before being sent with his unit to the Philippines, Rudy married Lois Holdorf on August 1, 1943, at Spirit Lake. Following the conclusion of the war, Rudy and Lois started farming near Fonda, then moved to a farm near Knoke and finally moved to the family farm near Fonda in March of 1952. They raised their family and lived there for nearly thirty years before retiring and moving to Pomeroy. Rudy was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church and the AMVETS. Survivors include his wife: Lois: children: Bruce (Colleen) Schoon of Belvidere, IL, Steven (Rhonda) Schoon of Eldridge, Craig Schoon of Crystal City, MO; Karen (Terry) Swartz of Boone and Elaine (Jerry) Bly of Grand Marais, MN; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; brothers: Richard (Cathy) Schoon of Peace Dale, RI and William (Pat) Schoon of Portage, WI and sister, Helen Hatteberg of Clinton. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Dennis McFarland, daughter-in-law, Karen Schoon, brother, Gerdes and sisters, Margaret Erickson, Delephine Windfeldt and Lucille Faine.
