Curtis L. Johnson
(December 26, 1922 - June 17, 2011)Curtis L. Johnson - age 88, of Pomeroy, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Pomeroy Care Center in Pomeroy, Iowa. Curtis Leland Johnson was born December 26, 1922, at Fonda, Iowa. He was the son of Albert and Hulda (Johnson) Johnson. Curtis graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1940 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy as a signalman during WW II. Following his military service, Curtis attended a business school in Omaha. He worked in Fort Dodge for Standard Oil Co. On April 30, 1950, Curtis married Charlotte Wenzel at Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Palmer where Curtis worked for Standard Oil Co. In 1957, they moved to Pomeroy where Curtis opened Champlin Oil Co. He retired in 1989. Charlotte passed away in December 2001 and Curtis continued to make his home in Pomeroy. Curtis was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. Curtis also served on the Pomeroy Care Center Board where he was a founding member. He enjoyed traveling and attending his children and grandchildren's activities. Survivors include his children, Lelaine (Don R.) Anderson of Humboldt; Paul (Carol) Johnson of Pomeroy; David (Teresa) Johnson of Northwood and Louise (Keith) Aljets of Parnell; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren a sister, Helen Louise Sjogren of Tucson, AZ and special friend, Ruth Younie of Pomeroy.
