Jean M. Schultz
(December 20, 1915 - December 21, 2010)Jean M. Schultz was born on December 20, 1915 in Manson, Iowa to Victor and Bertha Anderson. She graduated from Manson High School and then attended Buena Vista College where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught school in the Manson area and then in Newell. On April 16, 1938 she married Clarence Schultz of Pomeroy. They started their married life on a farm near Manson. In 1941 they bought a farm near Newell. In 1944 a son, Alan, was born to Clarence and Jean. In 1945, the family moved to Laurens where they farmed until 1948 when they returned to Newell and farmed there until 1970. In 1970 Clarence and Jean purchased the Schultz Tap in Pomeroy which they operated until retirement in 1978. Jean was known as a great cook and was famous for her homemade food at the Schultz Tap. In retirement, Jean enjoyed playing cards, traveling with her children, and visiting her grandchildren. She was especially known for her cribbage playing in area tournaments. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. In May of 2003, Jean moved into the Pomeroy Care Center where she lived until her death on December 21, 2010. Jean is survived by her son Alan and daughter-in-law Grace of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by granddaughter Angela and Dan Myer of Temecula, CA, granddaughter Larissa and Scott Barnes of San Pedro, CA, and her great grandson Lucas Myer of Temecula, California. Jean was preceded in death by husband Clarence in 1986 her father and mother, brothers Ray and Walter, sisters Ruth, Opal, Dorothy, Edna, and Helen.
