Darrel L. Holtorf - age 74, of Pomeroy, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Darrel Lloyd Holtorf was born January 27, 1936, near Pomeroy, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Geneva (Maschino) Holtorf and was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church. He attended country school and served in the Iowa National Guard Infantry from 1956 - 1959. On February 3, 1957, Darrel married Donna Zehr at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Manson. The couple settled near Pomeroy where they farmed. Darrel was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He loved driving the countryside and working and spending time on the farm. He loved going to dances when able and enjoyed listening to country music. Byrons was a favorite place to visit with his friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed talking to the kids about their jobs and teasing them. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Pomeroy; children, Roger (Deb) Holtorf of Pomeroy; Rhonda (fiancée, Dan Roese) Holtapp of Pomeroy; Judy (Tim) Hess of Fonda; Joleen Stogdill of Norwalk; Marlyn (Julie) Holtorf of Pomeroy and Mary (Jamie) Tauber of Fonda; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and sister, Pauline Puhrman of Havelock. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Glen; sister, Shirley Kirchoff and a granddaughter, Anne Birt.
