EARLY SETTLER DIES AT JOLLEY
“Grandma” Geminder Was 91, Came To County in 1874; Is Buried At Pomeroy

Advocate’s county news service, Jolley – Mrs. Mary Geminder, 91, pioneer Calhoun County settler, passed away at her home Sunday evening. Death came unexpectedly, although she had been bedfast for nearly two years. Funeral services were held in the Catholic Church at Pomeroy at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning. Burial was also at Pomeroy. She was affectionately known to a wide circle of friends as “Grandma” Geminder. Mrs. Geminder was born in Germany and came to this country at the age of six. She became the wife of Jacob Geminder and they lived in Chicago for some time. They moved to a farm in Sherman Township, Calhoun County, in 1874. In 1889 they moved to a farm near Jolley. Mrs. Geminder had lived in town for the past few years. Her husband passed away in 1905. Surviving are six children: Mrs. Emma Huebner of Rockwell City, Mrs. Agnes Dillemuth of Princeton, Minn., Mrs. Sophia Teach of Lime Springs, William and Albert Geminder of Jolley, and Miss Minnie Geminder of Rockwell City; one brother, Henry Monk of Joliet, Ill., a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives.
