Obituary
Howard G. Lohr, oldest son of Jacob and Mary Lohr, was born Nov. 13, 1866 in Adams County, Pennsylvania, and died Aug. 6, 1937, at his home in Lohrville at the age of 70 years, eight months and 24 days. He came to Calhoun County with his parents in 1872, where they settled on a farm where Lohrville now stands. In 1889 he was married to Miss Bessie Lovelace. To this union were born eight sons and two daughters, both daughters preceding him in death. In 1894 he was baptized and joined the Lohrville Baptist Church. He is survived by his widow and eight sons, John, Hubert, Arthur, Gldye and Don of Lohrville, Walter and Lee of Los Angeles, Cal., Clair of Freeport, Ill., and Earl, who is stationed at Pensacola, Fla., with the U.S. Navy; four brothers, E. B. and Walter E. of Estherville, Dr. O. C. of Churdan, and Bert of Lohrville; two sisters, Mrs. O. E. Griffin of Iowa City and Mrs. Ida Dunlap of Los Angeles; several grandchildren and other relatives.

Was Son of Early Day Settlers After Whom Calhoun County Town Was Named
Advocate’s county news service, Lohrville – Howard G. Lohr, 70 years old, one of Calhoun County’s true pioneers, died at his home here Friday. He had been seriously ill for several months. Lohr came to Calhoun County with his parents at the age of five and had lived in and about Lohrville continuously for 65 years. His parents first settled on a farm where the town of Lohrville now stands. The town was named after these early day settlers. He is survived by his widow and eight sons, two daughters having preceded him in death, four brothers, two sisters and several grandchildren. An obituary appears elsewhere in this newspaper.
