LeRoy Armstrong
(April 26, 1928 - July 27, 2009)

LeRoy "Sam" Armstrong - age 81, of Pomeroy, passed away on July 27, at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City. There will be a wake at Michael Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home, Pomeroy, Iowa on Wednesday, July 29 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at Furlong Funeral Home, Galena, Illinois, on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena, Illinois. LeRoy Armstrong was born April 26, 1928 in the Knoke, Iowa area, the son of Charles and Zelma Armstrong. After high school he served in the United States Army for two years. He then took a job with the railroad and transferred to Galena, Illinois where he met and married Virginia Beadle in 1952. He was a member of the Eagles Club, the Elks Club, and the Knights of Columbus. LeRoy was a twenty year veteran of the volunteer fire department in Galena, Illinois and a life long Chicago Cubs fan. Survivors include sons: Mark of Lena, Illinois, Alan of Akron, Iowa and Jeff of Webster City, Iowa and two daughters: Lynn of Gurdon, Arkansas, and Jan of Ontario, Canada.
