(February 15, 1919 - June 17, 2009)

Dorris L. Loots - age 90, of Pomeroy, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Pomeroy Care Center. Dorris Lucille Bischoff was born February 15, 1919, near Pomeroy, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred W. and Della (Plummer) Bischoff. She was raised on the family farm in the Pomeroy area and graduated from Fonda High School in 1937 with a Normal Training Certificate. Upon graduation she became a teacher in the rural Pocahontas County Schools. On December 25, 1938, Dorris married Ray Loots. To them five children were born, Juanita, Gordon, Roger, Judith and Lila. They spent the majority of their married life farming in the Pomeroy - Palmer area. Ray retired in 1978 and they moved to a home in Pomeroy. Ray passed away in 1980 and Dorris continued to make her home in Pomeroy. In 2005, Dorris moved to the Pomeroy Care Center. Dorris was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, being active in the Ladies Aid and Quilting Society. She was a wonderful wife and mother and a true friend who will be missed by many. Survivors include her children, Gordon (Cindy) Loots of Pomeroy; Roger (Ann) Loots of Broomfield, CO; Judith (Merlin) Klotz of Parker, CO; and Lila Loots of Highlands Ranch, CO; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Almary (Harold) Maschino of Fort Dodge and numerous nieces & nephews. Dorris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; daughter, Juanita Becker; granddaughter, Cindy Jepsen; three brothers and two sisters.
