Obituary – Mrs. Margaret Dalton
Margaret Boyle was born Apr. 19, 1847 at Racine, Wis. She died in a hospital at Fort Dodge Saturday, Aug. 22, at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 13 days. She grew to womanhood in Wisconsin, Nov 5, 1866, she was united in marriage to John L. Dalton at Wheatland, Wis., and to this union four children were born, one son, Joseph, dying in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Dalton came to Pomeroy 61 years ago and settled on the farm they purchased northwest of town. They made that their home until 28 years ago when they moved into town. Mr. Dalton passed away soon afterward, Aug 17, 1908. Mrs. Dalton is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Florence Masterson of Moorhead, S. D., and Mrs. Alice O’Boyle of Canton, S. D. A son, John F. Dalton of Manson, well known editor, and 16 great grandchildren and other relatives. She was the last remaining member of her family. Pioneer Woman Dies From Fall
Mrs. Dalton Lived in Vicinity for 61 Years; Funeral at Catholic Church
Advocate’s county news service, Pomeroy – Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Monday morning, Aug. 24, for Mrs. Margaret Dalton, who died in a Fort Dodge hospital Saturday, Aug. 22, at the age of 89. Death resulted from a fall Mrs. Dalton had suffered in her home just eight days before. Rev. Father Graf was in charge of the services and burial was in the Catholic Cemetery beside her husband, who died Aug. 17, 1908. Mr. and Mrs. Dalton came to Pomeroy 61 years ago and settled on a farm northwest of her. They made the farm their home until 28 years ago when they moved into Pomeroy, soon after which Mr. Dalton passed away. Mrs. Dalton, one of the hardy pioneers of this vicinity was in good health until the last few years, was able to do her own work and walk down town. She suffered from poor eyesight but always managed to read the newspapers, keeping well posted on world affairs.
