Obituary – Mrs. M. Hynes
Bridget Ellen Connor was born on Oct. 8, 1847 in Louisville, Ky. At an early age she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Connor into Illinois where she grew to womanhood. In October, 1865 she was united in marriage to Matthew Hynes and to this union 12 children were born. The family moved to the locality of Storm Lake in 1884 and 10 years later moved to a farm two miles south of Jolley where the husband and father died in 1897, leaving Mrs. Hynes with the care of the family. In 1901 she moved with the family to Pomeroy where she continued to make her home until her death. Of her six daughters, four preceded their mother in death, Mary and Kathryn in infancy, Mrs. Elizabeth Groves in 1915 and Mrs. Nellie Waldo in 1924. One son, Mathias, died in 1920. Those surviving are Michael of Aurelia, Joseph of Jolley, Patrick, William and Mrs. Bessie Nieman of Pocahontas, Margaret and Fred at home. Mrs. Hynes also raise her grandson, George Waldo, who now lives at Cherokee. She also leaves 19 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Cavanaugh of Storm Lake and Mrs. Roger Hassett of Minneapolis, three brothers, James Connor of Iowa City, Joe Connor of Rockwell City, and Matthew Connor of Lincoln, Neb. All of her children, her three brothers and one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Cavanaugh of Storm Lake were here to attend the services. Among the out of town relatives for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. William Booth and Mrs. Clayton Mitchell of Aurelia, Thomas Connor of Mason City, Mrs. Albert Lally, son Bert and daughter Dorothy, Mrs. and Mrs. Tim Cavanaugh and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cavanaugh, all of Storm Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Cavanaugh of Sulpher Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Connor and son, Paul of Lincoln, Neb.; George Waldo and three children of Cherokee. Pall bearers were James Kennedy, John Clancy, Mike Clancy, Bud Kruchten, James Murphy and John Janotscheck.
