Joan Louise Richardson
(April 11, 1931 - July 6, 2023)

Joan Louise (Subbert) Richardson, age 92 of Lake City, IA, was called home to her lord on July 6, 2023. Jo was born on April 11, 1931, in Carroll, IA, to parents Otto and Ella (Thelen) Subbert. Grandparents Charles and Elizabeth (Bridert) Subbert and John and Mary (Schulte) Thelen. Jo was baptized and confirmed in Lidderdale, IA, and raised in Jolley and Lanesboro, IA. She graduated from Lanesboro High in 1948. Jo was united in marriage to the love of her life, Melvin (Shorty-Red) Richardson on July 2, 1949, in Jackson, MN. Jo and Shorty made their home first in Lanesboro, then Rockwell City, IA, and lastly, Lake City. This union was blessed with three children: Rick, Marty, and Sandra. All three of their children were born at McCrary Rost Hospital. Jo worked at the Lake City School for 30 years, retiring in 1997. Jo loved our Lord and learning more about Him through bible study at the church and bible discussions with her Brother Dwight. Some of her other favorites were crocheting, visiting with “folks”, and traveling to Branson, MO. She loved to just ride around with her husband. Jo liked to go country dancing with her friends but most of all, she loved her family. She cherished her time spent with family and especially the grands and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Rick (LaVonne) Richardson, Marty (Lori) Richardson, and Sandra Rock; grandchildren: Tiffany (Chris), Roxanne (Harvey), Zach (Sheenie), and Sydney; step-grandchildren: Joseph (Staci); great-grandchildren: Claire and Adalyn Green and Brylee and Cortnee Janssen, Ryder, Rayden, and Rylea Salinas; step-great-grandchildren: Holden, Jett, and Tenley Siemers and Austin and Addie Wiskus; sister-in-law Sue (Dwight) Subbert; lots of nieces, nephews, families, and many friends. Jo was preceded in death by her husband Melvin “Shorty” Richardson; parents and grandparents; sisters: Deloris (Clarence) Pribble and Norma( Fitzie) (Clyde) Cochran; brother Dwight (Sue) Subbert; step-grandsons: Jeffrey Siemers and Jessie Richardson; great-grandson Tucker Janssen; nephew Mitchel Pribble; brothers-in-law: Eldon (Seymour) Clyde, Floyd, and Russell Richardson and spouses; and parents-in-law Clifford and Mildred (Seymour) Richardson.
