Fred Bartels
(May 6, 1888 – June 4, 1933)

Obituary
Fred Bartels, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bartels, was born at Lebanon, South Dakota on May 6, 1888. At the age of two years he came to Iowa with his parents, moving on a farm five miles east of Manson. There he made his home with his parents, and later, when they moved to town, he lived with his brother, Will. Ill health compelled him, when 16 years of age, to quit farming and come to town, where he made his home with his parents and with his sister, Mrs. Dave Breitenbach. Trying to regain his health, he consulted with the best doctors, going to Rochester, Iowa City and other places, but there was no cure. Receiving the best care loving hands could give, he grew slowly and constantly weaker and passed away on Sunday morning, June 4, 1933, at the age of 45 years 29 days. He leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, William of Knierim and George Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Bales of Eldora and Mrs. Mary Breitenbach of Manson; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held in the home and at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Wednesday, June 7, and were conducted by Rev. W. E. F. Meier. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery north of Manson.
