Rites Held For Early Resident
Gustave Vosberg, Resident of This Vicinity Since 1895, Dies At the Age of 75
Gustave Vosberg, 75, an early resident of this vicinity, died Monday at a Lake City hospital of a heart ailment which he had been afflicted with the past two years. Mr. Vosberg was born in Germany May 12, 1863 and came to America at the age of 17. He lived in Illinois 17 years and then came to Calhoun County. He was married in 1897 to Hedwig Nase of Varna. Mrs. Vosberg died in 1931. Ten children survive Mr. Vosberg. They are Otto and Ernst at home; Mrs. L. Pritchard, Mrs. F. Hartwig, Erich, Hugo and Walter, all of this vicinity: Harry, Pocahontas; George, Farnhamville, and Carl, stationed in the Army at Fort Sheridan near Chicago. One brother, August, living in South Dakota, also survives. Funeral services were conducted at Immanuel Lutheran Church, of which he was an active member 42 years, Thursday afternoon, the Rev. W. C. H. Schaefer officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Gustave Vosberg, a pioneer settler of this area died Jan. 2, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 20 days. He was born in Schoenlanke, Province of Posen, Germany, May 12, 1863, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Vosberg. His parents being of the Lutheran faith had their son baptized and later confirmed in the faith. He remained true to the faith throughout life. At the age of 17 he came to America and located at Varna, Ill., where her remained 17 years. In the spring of 1895 he came to Calhoun County and purchased the farm on which he later lived until his death. Two years later he married Hedwig Nase of Varna and settle on the farm he had purchased. Mr. Vosberg wa an energetic and industrious farmer. After his wife died in 1931 he turned much of the work on the farm over to his two sons at home. The last two years he was afflicted with a heart ailment, which was the direct cause of his death at a Lake City hospital. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vosberg, 10 of whom survive their father. They are Otto and Ernst at home: Mrs. L. Pritchard, Mrs. F. Hartwig, Erich, Hugo and Walter all of this vicinity; Harry of Pocahontas; George of Farnhamville, and Carl, who is in the Army, stationed at Fort Sheridan near Chicago.
