Donna Myrle Burke
(March 7, 1931 - February 18, 2024)

Donna M. Burke, age 92, of Pomeroy, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Pomeroy. Donna Myrle Armstrong was born March 7, 1931, near Knoke, Iowa, to parents Charles and Zelma (Stevens) Armstrong. Donna attended country school, then the Jolley school, and lastly Pomeroy schools. She graduated from the Pomeroy High School in 1949. On June 4, 1949, Donna was united in marriage to Derald Burke in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Jolley for 14 years, then on the family farm near Pomeroy for 17 years. Donna and Derald retired from farming in 1980. They moved to Pomeroy, then Twin Lakes until 2001, when they returned to Pomeroy. Derald passed away in 2009 and Donna continued to make her home in Pomeroy. Donna was a past member of the United Church of Christ and was currently attending St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. She loved sewing and quilting, having made over 40 quilts. Donna and Derald spent 30 years wintering in Texas, which they greatly enjoyed. She also loved to do wood carvings and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family. Survivors include her children, Dennis (Karen) Burke of Arizona, Coelet (Nick) Hammen of Pocahontas, Kely Stuart of Knoke and Delmar (Ronda) Burke of Pomeroy; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Derald, of 60 years; sisters, Opal Dumdei, Phyllis Schlafge, Caroline Black, Joanne Jacobson and Colleen Lines, and her brothers, Delmar Armstrong and LeRoy Armstrong.
