Mary Ann Savage
(April 2, 1930 - February 26, 2024)Mary Ann Savage, age 93 of Lake City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, at her home in Lake City surrounded by her family. Mary Ann was born on April 2, 1930, to parents William and Clara (Hardy) Goins in rural Calhoun County. She attended country school until the 9th grade when she moved to Lake City and attended West View High School graduating with the Class of 1947. After graduation, Mary Ann continued her education in medical technology at NW Institute in Minnesota.
On December 29, 1949, Mary Ann was united in marriage to the love of her life Pete Savage in
Dubuque, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: Bill, Bob, Christi and Shelley. Together they raised their family in Lake City where Mary Ann, after staying home with the children, worked as a bookkeeper for the Farmers Coop and later as office manager for Old Republic Crop Insurance Company. Mary Ann was a charter member of the “Dewey Ducks” and belonged to multiple social, card and quilt clubs; She was quite the hostess. Mary Ann loved to quilt, do puzzles, bake cinnamon rolls and gingersnaps, and stay connected to everyone whether it was in person or online. Mary Ann was a keeper of all things sentimental – grandchildren’s heights on the bedroom closet door, greeting cards and letters, and an avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Her home was where you came to feel welcome and loved – whether you were kin or a dear friend. Everyone was welcome at the Savage house. Mary Ann always made sure to prepare extra food, “just in case". She truly wanted you to have a place to call home and made sure you knew it. Her final Christmas was one of sharing her treasured memories with the entire family. The family she built with her husband of 72 years, Pete, was most important to her. Those left to cherish her memory include children: Bill (Debbie) Savage of Lake City, Bob
(Patty) Savage of Halbur, Christi Savage of Lake City, Shelley (Dan) Schaffer of Auburn; grandchildren: Jason (Lisette) Savage, Ryan (Amy) Savage, Jason Riesenberg, Becky (James) Kojak, Ryan (Stacie) Riesenberg, Amber (Jeremy) Gettler, Melissa (Dominic) Galloway, Joel Yeager, Demi Yeager, Jacob (fiancée Hanna) Schaffer, Seth Savage and Troy Savage; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
