Prudence Gouldin
Lake City Graphic, December 28, 1899

Prudence Gouldin was born May 31, 1832, in Franklin co, Ohio. She was married to Anthony Cole Sept. 16th, 1846, who died Oct. 7th, 1848. She was married to Wm. Fickle May 30th, 1850, who died July 27, 1890. Of the first marriage two children were born. Wm. B. lives in western Nebraska, Annetta died in early infancy.

Of the last marriage 13 children were born, of whom 8 are still living, 6 sons and 2 daughters. All but two of the sons live in this immediate vicinity and have been untiring in their care and devotion to their mother in her long and painful illness. There are now living 22 grand-children and 11 great grand-children. She was converted at the age of 14 and joined the M. E. church. She came to Iowa in 1865, living in Boone Co. until May, 1868, when she came to Calhoun county. Her Christian life in this vicinity needs no comment. Her aim in life was to do good. Wherever she was needed she was ever ready to minister to those who were sick or in trouble. “Tis well written “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”

Funeral service was held in Cottonwood church, Thursday, Dec. 14, at 12:45 o’clock and the remains laid away by the side of her husband in the cemetery near by. Rev. E. G. Keith, her pastor, conducted the service, speaking from words of her own choosing, found in St. John 14:1-3. Thus closed a long life of useful service in the Lord’s vineyard.
