Roma W. Hocking

Roma W. Hocking, 83, of Storm Lake, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, in Rochester, Minn., following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Gregg Johnson officiating. Burial was in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Iowa.

Mrs. Hocking was born March 26, 1918, in Yetter, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ora (Nickelson) Fahan. She graduated from Lytton High School in 1936. She married Ralph Hocking on October 12, 1936, in Elk Point, S.D. He died November 5, 1990. She had worked at the lunch counter of the Council Oaks Grocery Store, Hawley-Alilson of Cherokee, Honsbruch Drug Store, and as a minibus dispatcher for Mid-Sioux Services in Cherokee, until retiring in 1997.

Survivors include two sons, John Hocking of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jody Hocking and his wife, Reta of Storm Lake; two daughters, Judith Hocking of Des Moines, and Jacqueline Puhrmann and her husband, Mark of Paullina, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and a daughter, Barbara.
