Death of Mrs. Ed. Foley
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kane received a telegram June 15th, calling them to Omaha on account of the serious illness of their daughter, Mrs. Edward Foley. They went at once, and upon their arrival learned that their daughter had been terribly burned with gasoline, and that her life was hung in the balance. Mrs. Foley’s dress skirt had become saturated with gasoline while she was filling a tank to her stove, and before she was aware of it her clothing was a mass of flames. She was burned fatally before the fire was extinguished, and her sufferings from that time until her death last Monday at 8 p.m. was of the most painful nature. During her illness a babe was born to her, which lived only three hours, and thus the accident was the cause of two deaths.

The remains of mother and child were brought to Scranton for interment. The funeral services were conducted at the Catholic church yesterday by Rev. Father O’Farrell, assisted by Rev. Father Kinney. A large concourse of mourning friends followed the remains to their last resting place.

Relatives attended the funeral from Omaha, Kansas City, Lake City, Odebolt, Carroll, Dunlap and Vail. Mrs. Foley was in the prime of womanhood, her age being 33 years, 2 months, and 29 days. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kane request us to express heartfelt thanks for them to the many, many friends who did all in their power to assist and relieve them in this their time of profound affliction. The deepest sympathy in the hearts of our people goes out without stint to the bereft husband, the sorrowing parents, and all those to whom Mrs. Foley was near and dear. -Scranton Journal, June 29.
