William Moss Dies Suddenly

Death came very suddenly and unexpected to William Moss last Saturday, December 11, 1909.

Mr. Moss was a carpenter and was working on Rollie Miller's new house, eight miles west of Greene, which he and other workmen expected to finish that day. He had been feeling good all the week and was jovial at the breakfast table, eating a good breakfast. He started to work with the other men and was in a room by himself planing and smoothing a floor. About 9:30 o'clock one of the other workers went into the room and discovered Mr. Moss lying under the carpenter bench in a partially unconscious condition. Jerry Reeve went to his aid and he was soon carried to the other house where the family was living and Dr. Arthur was telephoned for who in company with his son, Howard Moss, drove to the scene. According to the doctor's report Mr. Moss had suffered a cerebal hemorrage or a stroke of appoplexy and was in a dazed condition and unable to talk. All treatments failed in restoring him and he gradually yielded to his injury until four o'clock when he passed away.

His daughter, Amy Moss and his brother Aaron Moss drove out and arrived about an hour before his death.

The remains were brought to town and the funeral was held on Monday, being in charge of the Odd Fellows, in which order he had been an honored member for many years. The Rebekah lodge was also in attendance.

The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Fisher of the Presbyterian church. The funeral was largely attended by old friends and neighbors of the deceased. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

William Moss was born in Carroll county, Indiana, October 15, 1836 and died on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1909, aged 73 years. He moved to Iowa in 1855 and settled at Edgewood, Ia. He was one of the early settlers of this part of Butler county and has made Greene his home ever since the town was started.

Five children survice him, Amy, Edward, Howard, Clyde and Laura.

Mrs. Moss died about eleven years ago.

Wm. Moss was a quiet, unassuming man, but a good neighbor and citizen ever ready to do his part in whatever take in this battle of life.

The Recorder wishes to join the many in extending condolence and sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
