JAMES NOEL AVERY
CLARKSVILLE- James Noel Avery, 75, Clarksville, and formerly of Waverly, died early Tuesday morning, May 7, at Wavery Municipal Hospital of natural causes.

Jim was born on March 29, 1921, in Waverly, the son of Harry Boyd and Laura Zoe (Sinkey) Avery. Jim attended school in Shell Rock, graduating from the Shell Rock High School in 1938. Following his schooling, he worked various jobs in the Shell Rock and Waterloo areas before entering the U.S. Coast Guard on October 3, 1941.

On August 3, 1942, Jim married Katherine Anne McKliget at the Immanuel Conception Catholic Church in Port Angeles, Wash. Folloiwng Jim's discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard on December 20, 1946, the couple made their home in Wavely. Jim began working for the Schield-Bantam Company in Waverly retiring in 1981, as head of the parts department.

In 1983, the couple made their winter home in Pharr, Tex., and their summer home in Lansing, until August 1993, when the couple moved to Clarksville keeping their winter home in Pharr.

Jim was a member of both St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly and St. Annes Catholic Church in Pharr. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2208 in Waverly.

Survivors include his wife, of Clarksville; two sons and their spouses, James. D. and Kathryn Avery of Pensacola, Fla., Joe and Cathey Avery of Shell Rock, three grandchildren, Sharon Kvistad, Mikel Avery and Pete Avery, two great-grandchildren, and one aunt Pauline Toll of Forest City. He was preceded by his parents, and one brother, Charles in infancy.

Memorial services will be held Friday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly, with Rev. Jim Miller presiding. Jim's body has been cremated and private family burial of his cremains will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, where there will be a 5:30 p.m.rosary and a 6:30 p.m. vigil service Thursday.
