Services are pending at the Chapel of Memories for Merle L. Boylan, 76, of 436 Center St., who died at 6 a.m. Monday of embolism at Allen Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1885, at Waverly, the son of Henry and Allie Adams Boylan. He has lived in Waterloo since 1906. He married Grace Bartlett on July 26, 1909. Mr. Boylan retired in 1952 from the Illinois Central Railroad after working for 42 years as an engineer. After his retirement he sold model trains and was active in a local model railroading group. He was a member of the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church, a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 105 AF&AM and a member of the Tabernacle Chapter 52 RAM. Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Maynard Potter, of 237 Reed St., two sons, Robert, of 1112 Oregon and Corlis of Dubuque, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
