Contributor: Connie Ellis (Allamakee County IaGenWeb volunteer)Services were held for W. Lloyd Bruce at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 7 at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, Iowa. Casket bearers were Clarence Storla, Robert Schroeder, George Huebner, Burr Cook, Ralph Hanson, and Clarence Brandt.
William Lloyd Bruce, son of Edmund and Nellie (Berkenbosch) Bruce was born February 23, 1904 at Rolfe, Iowa. He died Saturday, October 3, 1987 in his home at Postville, Iowa, Allamakee County. On January 7, 1928 he married Thelma Irene Naney at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple spent most of their lives in Postville. Thelma died April 25, 1973.
On November 4, 1974 he married Inez (Jeglum) Volz at Nashua, Iowa in a double ceremony with her daughter, Cheryl Volz. Lloyd was one of the first turkey growers in Northeast Iowa. He also owned and operated the Postville Feed Mill for many years. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Northeast Iowa Shriners and a former member of the Postville Volunteer Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Thelma, and one sister, Velma Tindell.
He is survived by his wife, Inez of Postville, Iowa; a step-son Gary Volz and step-daughter, Cheryl Stover, both of Sacramento, California; 2 step-grandchildren, David Volz, and Amanda Stover; one brother, Maynard Bruce and one sister, Dorothy Grace, both of Greene, Iowa.
