From Clarksville Star, 1882

Mrs. John Neal died Sunday, December 27, 1882, after about four week’s sickness. Her death took place only about two years after her marriage, her name formerly being Miss Eva M. Swan. She was about 26 years old and a daughter of Mr.and Mrs. H. M. Swan, who live east of this city. Mrs. Neal was a most excellent lady and was beloved by those who knew her here and also west of this place, where she had more recently made her home with her husband who survives her with one child—a boy four months old. The funeral occurred at the M.E. Church in Clarksville last week Tuesday and was conducted by Rev. McKee. A large audience was present who attested to the universal esteem in which the deceased was held. The remains were deposited in Linnwwood cemetery.

Transcriber’s note: John P. Neal was the son of Barnet and Caroline Ensley Neal
