Nelson S. DeMoss was born Apr. 5, 1843 in Bernadotte, Fulton Co., Ill., and died at his home in Bristow, Iowa, February 14, 1921, aged 77 years, 10 months and 9 days. He was married to Miss Sarah E. Surfus, March 28, 1865 at Waterloo, Iowa. His faithful wife was called by death July 1, 1919 and since that time Mrs. Genevieve Jackson has presided over his household in a faithful and capable manner. Mr. DeMoss was confined to his bed about all of the time the past year. He was a faithful member of the United Brethren church for many years and contributed generously of his means for the up building of the church work. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews among which are: C.L. DeMoss, Dubuque; Mrs. A. Roberts, Granite Falls, Minn; Mrs. F.F. Wells, Arcadia, Fla.; Mrs. Phillip Reinghans, Wm. and A.L. Surfus, Bristow; and Milton Boylan, Pendleton, Oregon. The funeral was held at the United Brethren Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in charge of his pastor, Rev. W. N. Roush. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.
