CLARKSVILLE — Darrel Maifeld, 91, of Canyon City, Colo., formerly of rural Clarksville, died Dec. 24, 2010.

He was born April 13, 1919, in Kesley, son of William and Alda Brown Maifeld. He married Betty Baldridge on Aug. 31, 1947, in Des Moines.

Mr. Maifeld graduated from high school in Clarksville, served in the Army National Guard, then earned his master's degree from Iowa State University, Ames. After 23 years with the YMCA, he and his wife purchased and operated a commercial laundry in Granby, Colo., for 12 years.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Nancy (George) Photos and Linda Maifeld, all of Florence, Colo., and Mary (Larry Carucci) Maifeld of Bozeman, Mont.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Marge Roberts of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Betsy; a sister, Lorraine Gabbois; and two brothers, Kenneth and Delbert.

Celebration of Life: was Dec. 31, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, Canyon City.

Inurnment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Evergreen, Colo., in the spring. Arrangements handled by Holt Family Funeral Home, Canyon City.

Memorials: may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Bruce McCandless State Veteran's Nursing Home Resident Benefit Fund.
