Funeral services for Myron L. Nelson, 79, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Military Honors will be conducted by Tack-Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2011, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene, with a public scripture service at 7: p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

Myron was born May 13, 1931, in Arlington, South Dakota a son of Andrew and Eda (Larson) Nelson and died Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

He received his education in the Public Schools at Sinai, South Dakota graduating in 1949. Myron was inducted into the U.S. Navy in 1952 where he served on the U.S.S. Toledo CA 133 as a Ship Electrician. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Having served in the Korean Conflict.

Myron was united in marriage to Helen M. Johnston August 17, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whitter, California. To this union were blessed three children. The couple moved to Elma in 1966 and to Greene in 1967. He worked for Interstate Power as a Lineman until his retirement in 1993.

Myron was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene where he served a term on the church council. He served as District Commander and Vice Department Commander of the State of Iowa for the American Legion.

Myron enjoyed hunting and trapping,“Word Find Books”, playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren, stag night at the Legion, wintering in Arizona and going to the Casino.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen of Greene, a daughter: Karen (John) Worley of Greene; two sons: Andrew Nelson of Greene, Steven Nelson of Eagle River, Alaska; six grandchildren: Ashley (Steve) Coake, Amy Worley, Jonathan Worley, Sarah Nelson, Hannah Nelson, Joshua Nelson.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Marlene Donnenwirth.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene.
