Albert M. Thorne, 93, of New Hartford, died Sunday, Feb. 6, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 21, 1917, near Buck Grove, rural Grundy County, son of Benjamin and Gertrude Miller Thorne. On Dec. 31, 1947, he married Cena Kappers at Bethel Reformed Church, rural Aplington. She died March 23, 2005.

Mr. Thorne worked for local farmers in the area and he did factory work at Headford Foundry, Waterloo. He also worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps; was a U.S. Army veteran of the Pacific theater of World War II; farmed near New Hartford, retiring in 1997; and was a member of New Hartford United Methodist Church.

Survived by: three daughters, Mary (John) Dawkins of Boone, Jean (Bob) Eich of Cedar Falls and Phyllis (Leon) Boelts of Wellsburg; a son, Mark (Jenny) of Parkersburg; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Clifford (Doreen) of Parkersburg and George of Chicago; and two sisters-in-law, Gert Thorne of Parkersburg and Arlene Thorne of Allison.

Preceded in death by: eight brothers, Vernie, Benjamin, James, Robert, Elmer, Fredrick, Delos and an infant; and a sister, Sophie Adelmund.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Hartford United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in New Hartford.

Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
