GREENE — Helen Sarah Glaspie, 97, formerly of Greene, died Monday, Nov. 29, at Bickford Cottage, Marion.

She was born Sept. 24, 1913, in Emmetsburg, daughter of Silas and Ida Nelson Sampson. She married Robert James Glaspie on Aug. 18, 1937, at Emmetsburg Lutheran Church, Emmetsburg. He died in 1974.

Mrs. Sampson graduated from Emmetsburg High School and, after earning her teacher's certificate, taught country school. Later she and her husband farmed northeast of Greene. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greene.

Survived by: a daughter, Mary (Sam) McCord of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Carman (Lois) of West Des Moines, Leon (Judy) of Plainfield and Paul of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Richard; and a sister, Vera Rice.

Services: were 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Greene.

Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, was in charge of arrangements.
