Paul H. Gerdes, 82, of Dumont, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.

He was born July 9, 1928, on the family farm in rural Dumont, son of Dirk and Stena Greenfield Gerdes. He married Margaret Becker on Sept. 1, 1950, at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ackley.

Mr. Gerdes graduated from Reisch Auctioneer School, Mason City. He was a lifelong farmer, raising corn, soybeans, hogs and cattle, and was a seed sales dealer for DeKalb for many years. He served as president of the State Farm Bureau in Butler County and was a member of Dumont Reformed Church.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter Marilyn (Roger) Freeman of Clear Lake; a son, Mark (Deb) of Aredale; five grandchildren, David (Shanna) Freeman and Andrea (Derek) Nyhus, both of Plymouth, Minn., Jodi (Harv) Gerdes Demuth of Osage, Kelli (Shane) Roenfanz of West Des Moines and Maggie Gerdes of Waverly; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Nyhus, Josephine Freeman and Morgan Nyhus; two brothers, Robert (Darlene) of Allison and Herman (Donna) of Stomsberg, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Hazel Fuller of Ackley; a brother-in-law, J. Frederick Freese of Ackley; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: an infant brother; and a nephew, Doug Gerdes.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dumont Reformed Church, with burial in Dumont Cemetery.

Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Dumont.
