Roger Wayne Seehusen, age 67, of Parkersburg, Iowa was born the son of George J. and Katie (DeVries) Seehusen on July 19, 1943, rural Dike, Iowa.

In his early elementary years he attended a rural country school near his home in Grundy County, Iowa and graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1961.

On May 6, 1964, Roger was united in marriage with Sharon Abbas at the Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg.

They made their home on an acreage southeast of Parkersburg while Roger worked at the Waterloo Register Company in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1967 he began working for the Butler Grundy Farm Service for 40 years which later became AgVantage FS at the time of his retirement in 2007. Roger was a structure salesman selling grain bins, dryers and farm buildings. In 1971 they moved to their current acreage south of Parkersburg.

Roger was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, where he was a former Deacon, Elder, youth leader, Sunday school teacher and served on the Building Committee. He also served as a past president of the Northeast Iowa Woodcarvers Club and was on the school board for the Excelsior Christian School.

Roger’s time was filled with the love of music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and performing with his family at local churches. He also was talented with wood carving and built various musical instruments. With his family they raised horses for their enjoyment where he would drive a team or just loved riding them through the countryside.

On Friday, November 5, 2010, Roger went to his eternal home to be with the Lord after a courageous six year battle with cancer at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 46 ½ years, Sharon Seehusen of Parkersburg, IA; one son, Shawn (Lynda) Seehusen of West Amana, IA; two daughters, Angela (Dale) Meester of New Hartford, IA, and Leah (her fiancée, Caleb Stam) Seehusen of Leighton, IA; six grandchildren, Bo and Chelsea Meester and Emma, Shannon, Amanda and Kylea Seehusen; and four sisters, Darlene (Darwin) Nicklaus of Parkersburg, IA, Arvilla (Gary) Irwin of Janesville, IA, Marlys (David) Fisher of Hubbard, IA and Cathy (Daryl) Myers of Parkersburg, IA.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Christian Reformed Church with burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery both in Parkersburg, Iowa.

Visitation will also be at the Christian Reformed Church from 3 – 8 p.m. Sunday.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg are in charge of arrangements.
