Sheryl Franken

Sheryl Franken, 43, of Decorah and formerly of Aplington, died Saturday,
May 1, 1999, of cancer after being diagnosed with the illness two months
earlier at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday May 8, at 1 p.m., at the Bethel Reformed Church of rural Aplington, with the Rev. Scott Summers officiating.

Rosie Aaldreks was the organist. Jeff McCauley was the vocalist. There were congregational hymns also.

Casket bearers were Mark Graff, James Miller, Todd Graff, Josh Besco, Randy Darling and Kevin Schipper.

Honorary bearers were Christopher Siems, Nicole Diekman, Bailie Schipper, Ryan Siems, Samantha Diekman, Jacob Schipper, Matt Timmer, Drew Diekman and Paulette Darling.

Interment was at the Allison Cemetery in Allison.

Visitation was held at both the French & Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and the Schwartz Funeral Home in Aplington.

Sheryl "Sheri" Jolene (Schipper) Franken was born Aug. 22, 1955, in Waterloo, the daughter of Georgie and Lois (Jungling) Schipper.

She received her education at the Aplington Community School and graduated in 1973.

In August of that same year, she was united in marriage with Larry Franken at the Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington. Following their marriage, they lived in New Hartford.

Sheri worked at the New Hartford Public School. They were later divorced.

On April 21, 1997, Sheri moved to Decorah. She had been working at Deco Products Co. in Decorah.

She spent her spare time riding four-wheeler ATVs. Sheri enjoyed riding them in parades dressed as a clown. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with children.

Survivors include one son, Jason Lloyd Franken of Buffalo Grove, IL.; one daughter, Amy Lynn Franken of Washburn; a special friend, Bruce Graff of Bluffton; her parents, Georgie and Lois Schipper of Aplington; grandparents Henry and Gesina Jungling of Aplington; two sisters, Jolyn and Gaylen Timmer of Parkersburg, and Ranae and Bob Diekman of Bird Island, Minn.; one brother, Chad and Nichole Schipper of Aplington; and several nieces and nephews.

Sheri Franken was preceded in death by an infant son, Travis Joe Franken in 1973; her maternal grandmother, Cornelia Jungling; and her paternal grandparents, Conrad and Reka Schipper.
