Jennie Schipper, age 93, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Remmer and Ida (Haan) Harms on March 15, 1917, north of Aplington in Butler County, Iowa. She received her education from a rural country school near her home. Prior to marriage Jennie worked as a hired girl for George and Kate Aalderks.

On January 11, 1938, Jennie was united in marriage with John A. Schipper at the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Aplington. They made their home on a farm near Bristow, Iowa for a year and then moved to their home farm near Aplington. Jennie was a dedicated wife and loving mother and was a hard working farm wife. She tended to the chickens and milked cows along side of John. In 1979 they moved into town in Aplington.

Jennie was a faithful member of the Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington and the Women’s Circle. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and embroidery. She was a wonderful cook and often made pie and bread for everyone to enjoy. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. Jennie was the peace maker in the family and always encouraged everyone to get along together. Her faith was very important to her and lived her life every day with it.

Jennie died Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, of natural cause.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Schipper on March 1, 1985 and her parents.

Jennie is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Aline) Schipper of Kalona, IA, and Lester (Caryn) Schipper of Aplington; three daughters, Esther (Victor) Woodley of Allison, IA, Inez (Chuck) Kuester of Royal, IA, and Irma (Dave) Wulke of Midland, TX; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Henry Harms of Aplington; John (Kathryn) Harms of Aplington; Raymond (Doris) Harms of Aplington; Edward (Ann) Harms of Aplington; and two sisters, Fannie Meyers of Parkersburg, and Edna Janssen of Ackley, IA.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington and will continue 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Bethel Reformed Church with burial at the Bethel Reformed Cemetery both rural Aplington.
