Dawn Rene Heldt, age 44, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Fred and Diane (Wood) Lange on May 21, 1966 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

She received her education and graduated from the Harry S. Truman High School in 1984. She continued her education graduating from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls in 2005 and received her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 2008.

On September 23, 1986, Dawn was united in marriage with Brice Heldt in Elkton, Maryland. In 1992 they moved and lived in the Butler County Iowa area and in 2008 they moved to Parkersburg. Dawn had worked at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa, from 1993 – 1996 as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She was currently working as a cook at Dutch’s Steakhouse & Saloon in Parkersburg. She took great pride in knowing the local customers and often knew exactly what and how they wanted for their meal.

Dawn was a member at Vilmar Lutheran Church in rural Allison, Iowa, where she had taught Sunday School. Dawn was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers since she was very young. Dawn loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed their family vacation to New Orleans.

Dawn died Monday, August 9, 2010, at her home in Parkersburg from a short term cancer illness. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Elwood and Geneieve Lange and her maternal grandfather Evert Wood.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Brice Heldt of Parkersburg, IA; one daughter, Erin Heldt (age 14) still at home; one son, Patrick Heldt (age12) still at home; her parents, Fred and Diane Lange of Croydon, Pennsylvania; one sister, Janette (Jim) Schwager and their children, Miranda and Evan Wells all of Levittown, Pennsylvania; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Wood of Plantation, Florida; and many other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Miracle Park where there will be a 3:00 p.m., Prayer Service followed by a gathering at Dutch’s Steakhouse, both in Parkersburg.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.
