Carl Andrew Cummings, age 47, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of George Emmett and Diana Loretta Anne (Dozark) Cummings on September 14, 1962, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was baptized at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo.

He attended West High School in Waterloo and graduated in 1981. Carl then attended Hawkeye Technical College in Waterloo, followed by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he graduated with the distinction of Salutatorian with a business degree in Accounting.

Following college, Carl made his home in Parkersburg. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where he volunteered many hours helping with the renovation of the parsonage. Carl enjoyed watching movies, reading, walking, and especially time spent visiting with family and friends. He always enjoyed a good meal with them as well. In his free time, Carl kept busy helping with snow removal and running errands for residents of the Prairie Village Apartments in Parkersburg. He also delivered newspapers for the Waterloo Courier from May of 2001 until February of 2010.

Carl died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at his home in Parkersburg, from lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his father George Cummings in 1987; one brother, John Cummings in 1960 and one nephew, John Cummings in 2009.

Carl is survived by his mother and step-father Diana (Cecil) Lauterbach of Reinbeck, Iowa; five siblings, Roy (Linda Dixon) Cummings of Portland, Oregon, Mona (Kevin) Ash of Grundy Center, Iowa, Mark Cummings of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Lee (Teresa) Cummings of Waterloo, Iowa, Glen (Sherry) Cummings of Spencer, Iowa; special friend, Anne Gardner and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg and continue for one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Carl.
