Mary Julia Woodring, 91, of Shell Rock, Iowa and formerly of Plainfield, Iowa, died Wednesday afternoon, August 11, 2010, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes.

Mary was born on November 29, 1918, in Shell Rock, the daughter of John Horace Corell and Adeline Lidia Leavens.

Mary attended the Waverly school system, graduating from the Waverly High School on May 27, 1936. On February 18, 1939, Mary was united in marriage to William A. Woodring in Waverly, Iowa. The couple made their home in Plainfield, where Mary was a homemaker and later worked at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Bill died on August 19, 1994 and Mary continued to live in her home until 2008 when she became a resident of the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

Mary was a faithful member of the Horton Baptist Church where she was the church pianist & organist for over 60 years. She was also a member of the D.A.R. In her spare time Mary enjoyed music, painting, quilting, cooking and baking, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mary is survived by three sons, John (Mary) Woodring of Fredericksburg, Iowa, Bob Woodring of Galesburg, Illinois, James Woodring of Napa, California; one daughter, Andrea (Billy) Williams of Panama City, Florida; one son-in-law, Al Poe of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Corell of Nora Springs, Iowa.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents (John & Adeline), her husband (William), a daughter (Barbara Poe), and two brothers (Arnold and Roger Corell).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Horton Baptist Church rural Waverly, with Pastor Stephen Moore and Pastor James Ackerson officiating.

Burial will be in the Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield.

Public visitation will be held on Saturday, August 14 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Horton Baptist Church.

Memorials may be directed to either Iowa Hospice or the Horton Baptist Church.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family.
