Sidney “Sid” Charles Dean, 87, of Shell Rock died at the Shell Rock Heathcare Center on Saturday, February 10, 2007 of natural causes.

Sid was born on August 9, 1919 in Chapin, Iowa the son of Seth and Erma (Bowen) Dean.

He attended the New Hartford High School, graduating in 1937 with honors. Upon his graduation he entered the Army Air Corp and served his country honorably in World War II from 1941 until his discharge in 1944. On March 2, 1944 he was united in marriage to Grace Mcpherson at the New Hartford United Methodist Church. To this union six children were born. Sid owned and operated Sid’s Conaco in New Hartford from 1964 until 1973. Previous to his ownership of the station he farmed from 1945 until 1964. Sid retired to Branson, Missouri and spent many years woodworking and taking fishing trips to Canada, Minnesota and many other places. He also enjoyed a good game of cards.

Those thankful for having shared in Sid’s life include his wife, Grace Dean, children; Charlotte (Tom) Melicher of Shell Rock, Robert (Virginia) Dean of Parkersburg, Bill (Vicky) Dean of New Hartford, Steve (Lisa) Dean of Wellsburg, and Cheryl (Dayne) Payne of Cedar Falls, sister; Valeria Moldenhar of Northern California, daughter-in-law Layne Dean of Harrison, Arkansas. He is also survived by 35 grandchildren.

Sid is preceded in death by a son, David and a grandson, Kenny.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hartford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carolyn Bittner officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday.

A private family burial will be held following the services.

Memorials may be directed the Cedar Valley Hospice or the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.
