David A. Ball, 52, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died early Saturday morning, February 17, 2007 at the Waverly Health Center due to natural causes.

He was born on February 22, 1954 the son of Richard and Eunice (Dahl) Ball in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

After kindergarten the family moved to Iowa City, Iowa, for the next two years before moving to Mason City, Iowa. The family moved to Waterloo until 1967, when they moved to Hiawatha, Iowa. In 1968, they moved to Shell Rock and Dave attended Waverly-Shell Rock High School. Following his formal education he worked for TASCO Confinement Manufacturing in Shell Rock for several years. He left TASCO and went to work at Russ’s Cooler in Shell Rock, a business that his family owned. In 1984 his brother Don purchased the business and Dave continued to work there until 1997, when the business was sold. Dave worked for a time as a butcher in a shop in Latimer, Iowa until ill health forced him to retire and move back to Shell Rock.

Dave loved to cook and was always sharing his recipes with his family. He hunted, fished and collected many items including coins, arrowheads and beer steins. He loved to collect the unusual.

He is survived by his mother, Eunice Russell of Hampton, Iowa; one bother and his wife, Don and Erin Ball of Shell Rock; one sister and her husband, Denise & Steve Deike of Hampton, and by one niece, Brooke Deike and one nephew, Cole Deike.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ball; his step father, Ronald Russell; his paternal grandparents, Ora & Edna Ball, and his maternal grandparents Vernie & Ada Dahl.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Church, Shell Rock, with Pastor Steven McGinley officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock, and also on Tuesday at the church for one hour prior to the services.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
