Leona Marie Nieman, age 83, of Shell Rock, Iowa died Friday, March 16th, 2007 at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center in Shell Rock.

Leona was born on March 2nd, 1924 in Marmath, North Dakota, the daughter of Tom and Myra Bandfield.

She attended school in Slope County North Dakota until moving to Shell Rock in 1934. Leona then attended the Shell Rock High School and graduated in 1942. Leona was united in marriage to Donald Nieman on June 29th, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock. Lived most of her life in Shell Rock where she worked for North Western Bell in Waverly until 1963 and then at Carnation in Waverly until she retired in 1985. Leona’s enjoyments included crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch, crafts, bowling, golf, cooking, canning, flower gardening, riding horses, and most of all attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a member of the Finchford Community Bible Church, the care center auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Leona’s memory is honored by her husband, Don Nieman of Shell Rock, a son, Mark (Lynn) Nieman of Marlette, MI, a daughter, Kathleen (Keith) Nieman of Waverly, a sister-in-law, Thelma Bandfield, and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Daniel Nieman, a sister, Gertrude Hanson, and a brother, Ralph Bandfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 19th at the Finchford Community Bible Church with Reverend Jim Bauer officiating.

Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Friends can visit family from 5 until 8 P.M. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock.

A memorial has been established to the Finchford Community Bible Church.
