Myrtle I. Peterson, 99, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, October 9, 2007, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center of natural causes.

Myrtle was born on June 10, 1908, in Tyler, Minnesota, the daughter of Marius and Dorothy (Sonnichsen) Friis.

She attended country school in Minnesota and graduated from the Tyler High School in 1926. On June 16, 1928, Myrtle was united in marriage to Floyd E. Peterson in Tyler, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Cokato, Minnesota until 1929, when they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1958, the couple returned to Minnesota and in 1971, they moved to Shell Rock, Iowa. Floyd died on August 9, 1987, and Myrtle continued to live in her home until she made her home at the New Horizons Complex in Shell Rock for 15 years before moving to the Meadows Assisted Living in Shell Rock. On November 2, 2004 she became a resident of the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

Myrtle was a longtime-active member of the First Baptist Church in Shell Rock where she was active in children and women’s work and was the church organist for several years. Myrtle also wrote several articles for the Shell Rock Newspaper.

Myrtle is survived by her two sons, James Lowell Peterson and his wife, Ruth of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Charles Robert Peterson and his wife, Karen of Chanhassen, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and one sister, Helen Christensen of Superior, Wisconsin.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; 4 sisters and 1 brother.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Shell Rock.

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Public visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14th from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock and also for an hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Shell Rock or the Cedar Valley Hospice.
