Shirley Ann Stevenson, 77, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Friday evening, October 12, 2007 at her home in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Shirley was born on April 30, 1930 in Cedar falls, Iowa, the daughter of Einer and Gertrude (Warnock) Madsen.

She attended school in Cedar Falls and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1948. She then attended and graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to James Alexander Stevenson on March 19, 1954 in Wheaton, Illinois. She taught at Allison-Bristow Schools in Allison, Iowa for 32 years, retiring in 1995.

Shirley loved animals, reading and gardening. She was a lifelong bridge player.

She is survived by her three daughters, Becky Peters and her husband Steve of Gilbert, Arizona; Gale Secor of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Diane Stevenson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, David Peters of Tempe, Arizona; Sara Secor of Waverly, Iowa; and Elizabeth Melcher and her husband, James of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and one great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, James on December 24, 1989.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 11:00 am at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, Iowa.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock, Iowa. The family will greet friends an hour before services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Benny Gambaiani Library in Shell Rock or to Heifer International.
