Shirley F. Biekert, 85, of Shell Rock, died, Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

Shirley was born August 5, 1922 the daughter of Ralph and Mable (Savage) Henley in Shell Rock, Iowa.

She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock and was a graduate of Shell Rock High School. On September 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to Albert Biekert in First Methodist Church in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple made their home in Shell Rock. Her passion was caring for others and taking care of her family and home. In her free time she enjoyed growing numerous vegetables and flowers in the garden. She would can the yearly harvest to provide home grown food all year long.. She also enjoyed attending her children’s activities when they were in school.

Those thankful for having shared in Shirley’s life include her children; Ronald (Ellie) Biekert of Winthrop, Iowa, Deby (Frank) Woodson of Derby, Kansas, grandchildren; Chelley (Larry) Koch, Chris Biekert, Jimmy (Meredith) McClanahan, Jeremy (Sara) McClanahan, great-grandchildren; Colin, Chelsey, Caileye and Caleb Koch, Rhiannon and Audrey McClanahan, Marcus and Rylee McClanahan.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband in 2000, one son, Doyle Biekert, four sisters; Vera Hess, Ruth Eichhorn, Gladys and Wanda Henley, five brothers, Arnold, Donald, Floyd, Forest and James Henley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at United Methodist Church in Shell Rock.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, January 11, 2008 at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock and for an hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be directed towards the family.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock is in charge of arrangements.
