Karen Walters, age 60, of Shell Rock, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

Karen was born on April 27, 1947 in Waverly, Iowa the daughter of Harold and Verla Hawk Walters.

She was raised in the Shell Rock area and graduated from the Waverly Shell Rock High School in 1965. Karen then attended the Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls. After attending school she went to work for Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community as a nurse's aide. She worked there for several years and then started working for the VA Hospital in Iowa City and later for the VA Hospital in Nashville, TN. Karen took early retirement and returned to Shell Rock to care for her mother.

Karen's enjoyments included country music, movies, the home shopping network, her guinea pig, and visiting with friends. Karen was a member of the Shell Rock United Methodist Church.

Karen's memory is honored by her two brothers, Lynn Walters of Shell Rock and Jimmy Walters, an aunt, Avonell Rutherford of Iowa City, an uncle, Eldon Hawk of Plover, and cousins, Rick, Warren, David, Lloyd, Layne, Randy, and Gene Hawk, and Gordon Walters.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen has been cremated and memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 5th at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock with Reverend Robert Holdorf officiating.

Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Family will greet friends from 9:30 am on Saturday, April 5 until the time of service at 11.

A memorial has been established in her name.
