Grace H. DeGroote, 92 of the Maple Manor Village Nursing Home in Aplington, Iowa, and formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, died on Thursday morning, May 15, 2008 at the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington of natural causes.

Grace was born on April 13, 1916, in Marshall, Oklahoma, the daughter of Wichert and Minnie (Saathoff) Huisman.

Grace attended school in both Oklahoma and Iowa, and following her schooling helped area families with cleaning. On February 1, 1936, she was united in marriage to Joe DeGroote in Waterloo, Iowa, The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Parkersburg. On February 8, 1962, Grace was saved, it was on this day she accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as her savior. Joe died in 1973, and Grace continued to live in her home on the farm until November of 2003, when she became a resident of the Maple Manor Village.

Grace was a member of the Stout Gospel Hall. She enjoyed to travel, bake cookies, and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Josephine Studnicka of Parkersburg, Iowa, one son, Joe DeGroote of Parkersburg, six grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Cindy Studnicka, Rebecca and Randy Johnson, Rhonda and Jeff Williams, JoLyn and Jeff Young, Terry and LaRee DeGroote, Christine and Tim Hippen; eleven great grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and Jonna Grandon, Nathan and Kaily Studnicka, Mitchell and Stephanie Williams, Jaeda, Jordan and Justine Young, Cannon and Karson DeGroote; three step great grandchildren, Amy, Ashley, and Macy; one great great grandson, Braxten John Johnson; one sister, Wilma Miller of Waverly and a sister-in-law, Ruby Huisman of Shell Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Donald Studnicka; 6 brothers, Willie, Edward, Richard, Jerry, George and Dick Huisman; and 4 sisters, Mattie Romeling, Tillie Hersey, Helen Huisman, and Minnie Ahrenholz.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Stout Gospel Hall.
Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for one hour before services on Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Stout Gospel Hall.
