JoAnna Gesena Hulbert, age 85, of Shell Rock, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

JoAnna was born on January 9, 1924, the daughter of Edd and Rose (Freese) Johnson in rural Butler County near Clarksville, Iowa.

She attended country school near her family farm. On November 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to Roscoe Hulbert at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. JoAnna and Roscoe farmed side by side in the Clarksville area before moving to their present Shell Rock home in 1966. JoAnna was a devoted and faithful caregiver. She enjoyed her visits with family and friends. JoAnna could be found spending time in her flower beds, gardening, sewing, and crocheting.

JoAnna's memory is honored by her loving husband, Roscoe of Shell Rock, three sons, Pearl Hulbert, Glen (Brenda) Hulbert, and David (Shirley) Hulbert all of Shell Rock, and two daughters, Faye (Gaylen) Dewey and Patricia (Ron) Hardee both of Shell Rock, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, a brother, Henry Johnson of Cedar Falls, and two sisters, Edna Beenken of Brooklyn and Jeannette Hulbert of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, a brother, Andrew Johnson, and two sisters, Elsena Johnson and Sena Leisinger.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 14 at the Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Schaedig officiating.

Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery rural Clarksville.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 pm.
