Johnnie Dave Kliege, age 89, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of John and Phena (Rottink) Kliege on October 25, 1919, at home on a farm ½ mile north of his current farm. He received his education from a rural country school in Monroe Township near his home.

On September 18, 1946, Johnnie was united in marriage with Jeanette Mae Paterni at her parent’s home in rural Aplington, Iowa. They farmed and lived on their current farm place their entire marriage. Johnnie raised grain, livestock and did custom farming for other farmers and bailed hay. He retired in 2006.

Johnnie attended the Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg for over 50 years and proudly helped build the new church. He enjoyed raising a big garden every year. Johnnie enjoyed spending many hours in his tinkering around shed where he liked to fix tractors, mowers and could fix about anything. He loved Sunday afternoon’s playing crocket with his family, 4th of July picnics they spent together, making homemade ice cream and going pheasant hunting.

Johnnie died Friday, May 29, 2009, at home in rural Parkersburg, Iowa, of natural causes, he reached the age of 89 years, 7 months and 4 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ernest (Esther) Kliege and Elmer Kliege.

Johnnie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Kliege of Parkersburg, Iowa; two daughters, Juliana (Harold) Burd of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Janola (Chris) Taylor of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Hinton M. Stokes IV, Daniel (Christi) Burd and Michelle (Jason) Hattey; and five great-grandchildren, Isaac and Collin Burd, Jenny and Katie Hattey and Hinton M. Stokes V.

Funeral Services were held by 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Hope Reformed Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Neal Ooms officiating.

Organist was Lois Fisher. Vocalist Randy Aalderks sang “Softly and Tenderly” and “In the Garden”. Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus”. Casketbearers were Hinton M. Stokes IV, Daniel Burd, Jason Hattey, Lowell Gieseke, Larry Gieseke and Jim McDermot.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg with Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
