Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, and one hour before services at the church.

Lydia Elizabeth Meyer, age 96, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Henry and Emma (Watermulder) Pannkuk on December 12, 1911, in Meservey, Iowa. She graduated from the Meservey High School.

On June 25, 1934, Lydia was united in marriage with Frederick R. Meyer in the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Aplington. Her father, Rev. Henry Pannkuk officiated the ceremony. They made their home in Aplington. She was an accomplished seamstress and did sewing for others. Lydia also helped Fritz with their insurance agency.

Lydia was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington. She was one of the church organist for many years, a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s group. Lydia served as the Pleasant View Cemetery Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She enjoyed accompanying Fritz while he sang and also in the Messenger Quartet and also played for other vocal groups. Lydia also loved to crochet and crocheted 30 or more table clothes for family and friends. Many family fishing trips taken to northern Minnesota were enjoyed by her and Fritz for over 50 years.

On Monday, August 18, 2008, Lydia passed away at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, where she had been a resident for 8 ½ years, of complications of old age.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick R. Meyeron May 31, 1998; a son, Wendell Meyer; a son-in-law, Ronald Fisher; and her parents.

Lydia is survived by one daughter, Vivian Fisher of Wellsburg, Iowa; two sons, Leland (Mary) Meyer of Aplington and Frederick Meyer of Topanga, California; a daughter-in-law, Linda Meyer of New Hartford, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
