NEW HARTFORD — Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson, 76, of Ames, formerly of New Hartford, died Sunday, April 4, at Waterford Assisted Living, Ames.

She was born Jan. 19, 1934, in Broomhouse, Scotland, to William and Mary Burt Paterson. She married Donald Johnson on Nov. 30, 1962, in New Hartford. He died Jan. 7, 2010.

She graduated from Paisley High School, Scotland, in 1952 and became employed as a secretary. She was a housewife and supported Mr. Johnson in the hardware business. She was a member of New Hartford Methodist Church.

Survived by: a son, Tyler of Ames; a sister-in-law, Lorraine (Peter) Hoffman of Ames; two sisters-in-law, Sarah (John) McEnaney of New Hartford and Jean Paterson of Paisley, Scotland; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceded in death by: her husband, Donald; two brothers, George and William; a brother-in-law, Herbert Johnson; and a nephew, Todd Johnson.

Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at New Hartford United Methodist Church. Public visitation for an hour before services Thursday at the church, with a joint inurnment for Betty and Donald in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge or arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Betty had numerous hobbies including knitting and crocheting, which she learned from her mother, reading Scottish literature, collecting clocks and watches, and traveling to her beloved Scotland to visit family and friends, which she did numerous times during her lifetime. A proud moment for Betty was when she received her U.S. citizenship in 1978.
