Milo Wayne Hartwig, 87, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the Shell Rock Care Center in Shell Rock.
Milo is survived by two children, Gary (Bobbi) Hartwig of Hudson, Iowa and Linda Sorg of Newton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jared Hartwig, Jordan (Erin) Hartwig, Ryan (Darlene) Foust and Eric Foust; a great-grandson, Jackson Foust; and a special friend, Fern Noel of Waverly, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; a grandson, Kyle Foust; and a son-in-law, Bob Sorg.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Shell Rock United Methodist Church in Shell Rock. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hopice in Waverly or to the Shell Rock American Legion. Milo was born on May 12, 1922, in Shell Rock, Iowa, the son of Edward and Hazel (Coster) Hartwig. He attended Jefferson #2 country school in rural Shell Rock until the 8th grade and then the Shell Rock High School, graduating in 1940. He worked on the family farm for a few years before enlisting in the United States Army during WWII. Milo was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Shell Rock. On August 17, 1946, Milo was united in marriage to Dorothy Dilger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He spent the rest of his life farming the family farm and selling Funks G Hybrid seed corn. Milo moved off of the family century farm to the Meadows in Shell Rock in March of 2005. His enjoyments included Cubs Baseball, Iowa Hawkeye's, bowling, playing cards, and hunting. Milo was a member of the Shell Rock American Legion Avery-Slight Post #393.
