CHARLES W. LEAVENS.

Charles W. Leavens, 66, mail carrier here for 23 years, died Monday at a local hospital.

Mr. Leavens was born in 1891 at Shellrock, Iowa, and attended school there and also college at Cedar Falls, Iowa. He came to Montana in 1913, homesteading near Jordan. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1917, serving a year and a half in France. He was married to Alma B. Hagen in 1920 at Sioux Falls, S.D., and they lived in St. Louis, Missouri, before returning to Miles City in 1923, where he served as mail carrier until 1946. At that time he moved to Chugwater, Wyo., where he published a weekly newspaper and had a rural mail route. He worked in the public library in Denver Colo, for four years, returning to Miles City April 13, 1937.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, the time to be announced later by Brays Mortuary.

Mr. Leavens is survived by his widow, Alma; one son Walter, Los Angles; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Sinkey and Mrs Adeline Corell, and one brother, Bain Leavens, all of Shellrock, Iowa.
