Passed Away at Home of His Son Fred

Was 84 Years Old and An Early Settler of Butler County.

In the passing away of Frank KNAPP, 84, on Tuesday morning at four o’clock, the mantle of sorrow has again been cast over the hearts and homes of his children, brothers and sister. His wife preceded him in death less than four months ago on August 2, 1936. Mr. KNAPP had carcinoma of the stomach but bore his cross with patience and fortitude. Sunday evening he sat and visited with his son, Fred, about plans for next summer and various business matters. Along about 1 o’clock Monday morning the family was awakened to find Mr. KNAPP lying on the floor. Presumably he suffered a light stroke when he attempted to get out of bed, and although he was restless, he apparently was in no pain. His daughter, Mrs. Robert BERRY, was summoned and assisted in his care until the end came.

Frank KNAPP was born at Madison, Wisconsin, October 1, 1852, the son of William and Nancy KNAPP. He was married to Amanda PAYETTE on September 2, 1878 at Waverly, Iowa. Nine children were born to this union, four of whom preceded him in death, namely: Blanche, Frank, Laura and Albena.

He leaves to mourn his loss. Five children: Mrs. Louise SCHERMERHORN, Barnesville, Minn.; Mrs. Elizabeth ZELLER, Fortine, Mont.; Mrs. Margaret BERRY, Bristow; Joe KNAPP, Waterloo, and Fred KNAPP of this place. Also three brothers: George and Will KNAPP of Minneapolis, and Al KNAPP of Cook, Minn. A sister. Mrs. Nelle THOMPSON, Arlington, Texas; a nephew, Frank NIES, Charles City; and 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic church at 9:30 on Thursday morning, with Rev. Fr. M. J. HOGAN officiating, and burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
